My question is where is all the profit from the sims 3 going? How are they able to split/break up content like this (because of a supposed budget limit) and nickel and dime people when they are still charging full price for the sims 3? I'm positive people are still buying 3 and I have yet to see it on sale on origin, not to mention you can't earn simpoints from watching ads on the store site so you have to pay for all of the simpoints now unless you're lucky enough to have someone gift them to you. I was under the impression that those funds are funding this version.
You seem to assume that EA would just invest the profit in the next version of the same game to please us. But this of course isn’t the way the stockholders want things to work.
EA wants as much profit from any game (and TS4 too) as possible and then invest it in something else which can be very different. Maybe EA will just use it to buy yet another game company which maybe makes sports games or action games or whatever.
Also there isn’t any fairness such that a game will get more stuff or a lower price just because it sells extremely well and thus gives a huge profit because the game company of course just takes this huge profit and use it for whatever it wants. And again: Free stuff or discounts aren’t given to please us. But just to make us more interested such that we buy more from Origin.
So forget all this speculation about “Where do the money go?” and “Don’t we deserve more discounts and free stuff?” because things just don’t work that way ;)
Great points. And I'm not so concerned with free stuff I was more so making it an example that were paying fully for simpoints now (more money going to EA) since they took the ads away from the site where you could earn points unless a friend/family member gifts you simpoints (if that's still possible). But you're right. Maybe just hope of mine haha. But then again it's EA were talking about here. I think they put a lot more into their sports games and advertising tbh
I just checked and the Sims 3 eps are all half of what we paid. They were the same price as we pay for eps in Sims 4. The sps are full price though and their sps were always 20 dollars. All ep for Sims 3 is 19.99.
Those ads to earn points were not something we had in the early days of Sims 3 either - I paid full price with no way to get free points for the first 3 years of the Sims 3. We got no breaks hardly at all on store content - I paid as much as 47 dollars for Lucky Palms with the Casino. All those things like complete your set - those came out near the end of Sims 3 developement. Believe me it is much cheaper now. I spent in the thousands to get the whole store and all the packs in total - and I was not alone - many simmers did.
Used to be they would put sales on at Christmas and Black friday for the store and the packs - but you have good prices now even compaired to most of the sales. Shoot I paid 80 dollars for the base game and it was not even the Collectors edition - it was the Limited Edition. So compared to what prices I paid - Sims 3 is a steal now, never mind all the different store deals now. Nothing I ever bought at the store was a deal it seemed - the deals were always on sets I already owned and the deals now are better than the ones we had.
I am surprised the sps are still 20 bucks though. Hopefully they will drop them half price like the eps - as it is crazy to pay the same price for a stuff pack that you pay for an ep. I agree with you on that for sure.
