Honestly, in response to whether or not I’d want a Sims competitor, I would like to see it come from another company, solely to see what could be done by a different publisher.
However, and I think this is widely shared, I’d much rather EA be the ones to create the biggest and best Sims game. The issue at hand is they continue to miss the mark on things, and only dig their grave deeper with various tactics, such as this MFP... excuse for a pack.
When we see a Sims competitor, it’s going to ultimately lack the charm of The Sims. Maybe it’d have its own uniqueness, who knows, but going by SimCity vs. Cities Skylines, CS lacks a lot of that SimCity charm. It’s, by all means a far more advanced and downright better simulation than SimCity 5, but it just lacks the uniqueness and humor that the SimCity franchise is renowned for. I think the same could be expected from a Sims competitor.
In essence, the only thing I really want, more than another company making a Sims-like game is for EA to make a Sims game which blows the other ones completely out of the water.
One little stuff pack is ridiculous for every one to be carrying on about if you ask me. You are not going to tell me Vampires, GT, Toddlers, and even Jungle Adventures are not really good additions to this game. I am totally entertained and having fun again thanks to that and I have no lag and no issues with Sims 4 or Sims 3 without a single mod in my games and no CC but one Sims 3 skin for sims 3 tots and kids so they look less like Cavemen. EA does make good Sims games as no other game can I get lost in for 6 hours at a time like I can the Sims - so to carry on over a filler pack is just plain silly to me - even if I didn't like the idea of getting the little furry critters. A stuff pack in any sims games has NO reason to consider the game the pits or a failure. Shoot for years no matter how good the stuff packs were not even half the simmers bought the most of them and you know it's true.
If anyone could do it better they really would not have waited 18 years to start and the two big houses that tried mid-stride failed big time miserably.
Wikipedia does have some info on the Activision and Liongate one - The Movies - I also came across 3 screen shots and they do look very much like our sims now and the Desert world we have. Their focus was the characters having a life and making movies - hence it is called The Movies. Funny it was out a year and a half and none of us even noticed. Pulled for lack of sales - was a 5 star out of 5 game and garnered 3 best Simulation game awards - did you ever hear about it? I know I didn't until I was reading that forum.
The screenshots don’t tell the truth about The Movies because it is nothing like the Sims. Instead it is a business simulation about having a movie studio. I remember trying it years ago. But it wasn’t my type of game. Maybe you have to be much more addicted to movies and movie stars than I was to like that game. But you should read the full description on https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Movies
I am the one who mentioned finding it there if you notice - I read the whole page - but keep in mind it did win 3 best Simulation game awards for characters, idea, and design. If you read the whole thing you will see it talks about the character getting sad if they don't have a movie to make or different behaviors they engage in - sounded like spoiled Hollywood stars. It was not just about making movies it was acting in the movies as well - directing etc etc.
One of the devs on Reddit that talked about it said it was a Sim like game based on Hollywood - but he did admit they go indepth into all aspects of the characters making a movie and I guess the player has to take the actors through the making of the movie from start to finish as well as time between making movies.
I just found LGR actually did a full review on The Moviies on You tube - he liked it.
