Anyone not into using mods or DLC? If you aren't into mods or packs, why?
I'm one of those folks who don't use them. Been playing the Sims for about 4 years now too.
From my experience, a lot of people really enjoy playing The Sims 4 with extensive custom content or DLC added to their game. They'll run with hundreds of mods, fill their mods folders with tons of new clothes or accessories for their Sims, and buy and install every DLC that they can get their hands on to (and afford). The reason for not using packs and DLC are very subjective and not one-size fits all, so I'm gonna share my POV:
I haven't been into into custom content or packs at all for like 2 years. I run entirely vanilla Sims 4 with zero custom content, expansions, stuff and game packs because I believe that originality is the most essential for video games. For example, I don't like installing that new mod that allows me to create sims with ultra-realistic facial features and makeup because I want my Sims to retain their original creations and development that the true Sims 4 developers made (to me, CAS custom content feels very unnatural, posh & too unrealistic compared to the environment around them.) When I say authenticity, I define it as where everything blends in with the environment to the game's original design & mission, and nothing sticks out.
Packs still seem to stick out from the original main Sims 4 mission. They'll introduce cool, yet often wonky or new features that of course, weren't implemented at first with base game, which for me, still sticks out of the game's original mission. Another example that relates well to this authenticity is a feature in Spa Day where a Sim can teleport to another location when they reach level 7 of Wellness. To me, that just seems like literal "cheating" which can only be accessed through testing cheats, makes the game super unnatural and way too easy to just teleport someone to one place to another. The original Sims 4 game did not feature teleportation without testing cheats (your Sims had to actually walk or run!) so now to me, it feels too easy to just have your Sim teleport anywhere in the venue at that level, and ruins that true Sims 4 mission and authenticity.
That's just my short POV about not being into packs or mods and I know other folks will disagree with me, but that's mostly my opinion.
Feel free to share yours as well.
