Because I rotate, I do a variety: houses, penthouses, apartments. Some of my sims live in San Myshuno and some of them are out in houses in the various neighborhoods.
Some of my sims are long-term residents of San Myshuno and some are more transient. A feature that I like is that a sim can move out and then another sim can move in after. I can click on furniture and the old furnishings from the previous tenant will come back. I keep the furniture in the apartments that turn over pretty basic. It makes it easy to move a sim into a new apartment and to start playing them. I don't have to redecorate the basic rooms.
I actually compensate my transient sims if they buy an item for an apartment that they aren't going to stay in or keep. It's like property maintenance for the landlord and will help to attract new tenants when they go. Nicer sofa and tv? Easier to rent out next time.
I like to experience the different environments with different sims. When it comes to apartments, I do wish there was a way to call the cops on loud neighbors after so many warnings.
