Yes I have the legacy edition, which was working fine even today, up until the latest update released today.

Gotcha, the Legacy version of Sims 4 has been retired (announced back in November).
You'll need to have a Mac running 10.11 (El Capitan) or newer that supports the Metal API to continue playing The Sims 4.
It looks like based on the specs you shared you have either a 2011 model iMac or MacBook Pro, both can update to El Capitan but unfortunately neither supports the Metal API.
