We have a built in machanic for this in the game though. Just don't toggle day off school/work and if you have a specific sim who loves the holiday they can call in a vacation day. My Halloween like holiday and Love Day are like this.
Well yeah, that's what I was saying. If we create a 'lesser' holiday on the calendar where we don't check a day off work/school, but for whatever reason decide for our current active household to want to take a day off anyway on that holiday anyway, we will have to give up vacation time. But off work/school holidays should not count towards our Sims' vacation time, because that's not realistic.

Exactly. If all our Sims' vacation time is used up by a few holidays, they will never be able to take time of to go on actual vacations or do other fun stuff.
They just need to allow us a set number (not unlimited) of paid off work/school holidays per seasonal cycle that don't use vacation time, exact number of days depending on the season length we selected in options. That would be quite similar to real life.
I don't get that either. It would be kind of silly to have every single day be a holiday anyway. Who would even do that? lol
