Or just an ill-chosen college relationship that Emma learns some lessons from and moves on?
My Billie Jang has the Kleptomaniac trait- got it when she aged up into a teen. It has turned out to be a fun and interesting, sometimes annoying, but a great personality flaw for a character who is otherwise a golden child with no real problems. She is also a Goofball with a high Comedy interest and skill (taking after her comedian dad) so it works well as a pranky funny teen personality who sometimes goes too far and makes her loved ones angry.
I think negative traits are a great solution to the "all my sims are the same" or "my sims all get along too well with everyone" problems.
