I think a music focused pack would be better as they can make singing a career if you have City Living and a shot at fame if you have Get Famous. Bring back the bass guitar and drums, some more wild hairstyle and clothing (especially for male sims as they are lacking in that area) and they can work their way up to play at a concert or something. What can work in University is being able to study music as a major.
Actually it was added to Sims 2 Uni according to Will Wright as a way for students to play in a band together in the towns associated with each Uni as each one had an outside open air stage in it for them to perform and earn tips to help with their bills while in college. If the band go good enough they did rather well just playing in town on Saturdays and Sundays.
