That playground venue is completely useless to anyone who only has the base game, unless you want to add like 14 monkey bars. Most playground items are locked behind packs. Just like when they added infants in base game but locked everything regarding them behind a pack.
I am, however happy that the Soul's Journey progression was slowed down. My Sims kept completing them before they reached adulthood doing tasks I didn't even know was on their bucket list. The mermaid bassinets are also very cute.
