Basement with Windows?

Is it possible to build functioning windows (that let light in) in a basement on a house with a platform? I'm familiar with the window well technique but it doesn't work if you have a house on a platform. Are there any other tips and tricks?

You should build a room next to your basement room. Then delete the ceiling to that room and turn it into an open space. Add windows/doors on the basement room wall that faces the open space. And add stairs/ladder to the open space area so you can reach the ground floor.
