Been testing the plant glitch... Some possible ways to avoid it.

Ok so my current save is a massive farm. As such I have been battling the reverting plant glitch which is still very much a thing. Now I play on Xbox so my game is free of all mods. I also have all the packs except one kit. I also play on long life span with the longest moths and lunar cycles. So hopefully this helps someone else out there.

First the bad news. Things I noticed: it is not tied to seasonal changes. it will happen in the middle of the month so I can rule that out. It also affects both seasonal and non-seasonal plants alike.

It won't matter if they are sheltered or not. It also doesn't matter if they are in the ground or a planter. And all planters will be hit.

Now the goodish news. There are things I noticed that each time has in common and how to tell which plants will be hit by the glitch.

First and foremost this generally only hits plants that you haven't harvested. Seriously. I can't be 100 % about this but every time it hit a plant that I noticed it was one I hadn't harvested. So before you do any of the triggers make sure you have either harvested, sold, or super sell your plants.

Now triggers I have noticed: traveling via the map. This one doesn't always happen. It might depend on other things. I'm still checking. But mostly I avoid doing this if I can. In will say it is less likely if you travel by prompts, like following to work or school or to a festival. Now there is a catch. Always leave a SIM behind at home. Do not use the go home function. This triggers it too. Instead switch control to the SIM at home and then have the SIM who left join them at home. So far that has not triggered it once. Also I usually set the SIM at home to tend to garden while I am away.

Now as far as it happening upon loading into the house the thing that seems more likely to cause it is resuming the game. Instead go to load game and do not choose the auto save choose one you made. Again my plants have survived being purged for may loads now. So I definitely think it has to do with resume which is what I had been doing before.

Next do not plant them with move objects on. And do not use move objects to put a tree in the midd!e of the big planters with other plants. The overlap seems to cause those plants to be hit even if you harvested them. So sorry but gardening need to be mostly MOO free if you don't want dirt piles. Now you can use MOO after they are planted to move the planters around and get them closer to each other. That seems to be fine. I have mine against each other and all is fine.

As far as when you go into CAS and come back out to them messed up again I have only had issues so far with ones that I missed tending or harvesting. So do that first and in theory you should be fine.

So far the only reverts I have had in my current save doing what I suggested were twice. And because I missed harvesting part of my gardens.its been a week of playing. Also before this I had multiple every freaking day. And i stayed revert free even when: going into CAS, managing the world, loading, and traveling a lot.

So I hope this helps.

I also figured out how to avoid the modular shelves popping back into the household inventory. For that its easy don't use MOO when setting them up and don't connect two diffent "units" of them.

I think there are multiple actions that can cause reverting and that’s why it is so hard to fix.

I have gotten used to harvesting before tending to other things with my plants too. I try to save before harvesting, before fertilizing, before tending, before going to another lot or into CAS, and before evolving. I save very often now. If plants revert I get out of my game without saving and go back in. Of course sometimes I get complacent, and forget to save at some point….. and yep sometimes 1 or more plants will revert.

I have had the reverting problem for years now.

@LaBlue0314 someone mentioned that you should fast forward between before 5 am - 9 am. This does seem to be one thing that usually works for me. Then I harvest all plants like @OmniNerd42 first, and then I save ( if reverting occurs later I can get out of my game without saving and go back in ).

These are other things people say might be a culprit……

    They say ……

Don’t use the great soil trait ( I no longer use the trait ).

When the season changes even in season plants ( inside and outside ) may revert, I have experienced this.

Some say they revert if you go to play another household and the season changes.

Some say if you have over 16 plants or more, you are more likely to experience reverting.

Some say if you que up plants to fertilize more than one plant with the same fertilizer ( example Que up fertilizing Plants to all fertilize with apples rather than one plant a banana, the second plant an apple the third plant an onion, etc. ) that reverting happens. I now always use a different type of fertilizer for each if I can and never use the same fertilizer twice in a row now.

Some say if you use lower quality fertilizer ( I believe they mean a fertilizer worth less than $50 ), that you may experience reverting. I always use cheap fertilizer….. sometimes my plants revert after fertilizing, sometimes they don’t, same thing with evolving plants so I save before each of these actions.

You may want to look up other threads on reverting and dirt piles, and read through them too.

  • I just accept it now and use testingcheats to revert them back to normal plants.
  • I recall this happening with mine when they reverted. When my sim woke up the plants were not ready to be harvested. So I had my sim prepare her breakfast, waiting for the time that the plants were harvestable. The harvest did come up, but my sim was in the middle of eating her breakfast. I was going to have her harvest right afterward. As soon as she finished and washed her dish, I directed her to harvest her plants, only to discover they had reverted back to the just planted stage. I never went into CAS, buy mode, or even travel to cause a loading screen. I haven't even attempted to do gardening in this game ever since.
  • Not sure about that one. Also they "fixed" the glitch in previous patches. Maybe that is one of the causes they fixed. So maybe that's why I haven't had that one happen. Unsure. I do know since the last update I have been tracking my garden's triggers. Each time I had it happen. Just to try and figure it out. Also been testing various ways of planting and weather I use cheats on them or not. The harvesting thing is the only thing I have noticed that each time had in common.

I will ask did you have a gardener by any chance when it happened while you were eating? Because the gardener used to cause mine to revert all the time if they were tending before I harvested. Or for that matter if I tended before harvesting.

I will say if it was the gardener I think that might be fixed. Because I have one, and a club, and patchy and the tending before harvesting hasn't caused an issue so far this save.

I probably should start doing that too as many people I have gardening as I do….
