B&H - Lectures and Mentors

I find the feature of giving lectures interesting. It's perhaps not the main feature of the Business & Hobbies pack, so it might deserve its very own thread :) Lectuires might easily become a central feature in my game. With the ticket kiosk it should be an easy way to make a little extra income, and it might encourage more sims to max one or more skills.

Although this new feature might be perfect for hobby skills, the lectures might also be a nice supplement to schools and education in general. It will work with many skills, I do not think we yet know exactly what skills might not be covered - if any. Maybe the whiteboard comes with one swatch for every skill in the game?

  • Right now I'm wondering if we can initiate lecures when playing a visitor/customer? How will the small business space work when not playing the owners, but the customers? It would be nice if my sim who wants to build her Pottery skill, could attend the pottery business, and click on the white board to trigger a lecture to begin. I don't expect a skill boost from a lecture, but it might be enough to push that skill bar up to the next skill level.

  • Another question  I hope we will soon get answered: Will lectures be limited to 10 level skills? If so, lectures in Knitting and Cross-stitching will not be possible, even if they are probably some of our typical hobbies... I hope they are in :)

Ooh, with the target audience ability I'm thinking teacher Sims could have an at home room dedicated to giving tutoring to children and teens for a bit of extra money after school. With the club system they could even do their homework there too!

  • I sure am doing village school in Henford.  Also lots more, depending what skills are included.

I find this feature interesting too.

In Germany we have something called VHS, has nothing to do with videotapes, it stands for Volkshochschule (Folk Highschool?), this "school" offers lots of classes for all usually during workfree hours. Anyway this feature instantly made me think of that, it be cool if we just need the whiteboard for it, then it may work at rec centers too?

I never use rec centers but if my sims could teach and/or learn there I might.

  • I like this feature that is coming with the new pack also. LikeAgnesValravn  posted, I think that it would work well at recreation centres. My sim has many high levelled skills, so I will enjoy using the lectures and classes feature.

  • Cooking classes and Lifestyle classes sound like good fun and you can go far with these classes!

I'm excited to try this new gameplay out.🙂

I like this feature too. If we can hold classes, we'll be able to play like sims are taking a class in college without the university pack, and as others have said, it would be a lot of fun to run a village school!

  • This feature looks very promising . I would love for my spellcasters to give magical classes with spellcasting and potion brewing. Those aren't skills so I might have to substitute them with writing classes (studying spells) and mixology or herbalism classes. With the right surroundings it might do the trick.

AgnesValravnwe have something similar in Belgium (volwassen onderwijs = adult education) where people can learn a wide variety of skills, mostly in the evening. This could be a language, a skill (sewing , photography , . . .) this would be a great idea. That way my supersim can make money with her many maxed skills.

Maybe that will work like with the yoga classes, where a class starts every now and then and you can join it. Not sure how you define who is teaching what in this new system as it uses the whiteboard and maybe the skill taught is based on whoever is teaching and their skills.
