I was enjoying this event, even though I am not a fan of them, seeing as I never was able to finish the Grim Rewards Event since it wouldn't even show up in my game, even with no mods and a new game, but, I was doing this event today, the 2nd week, and got to the part where we have to fix something that is broken, I've been waiting and waiting around, waiting for something my Sims has to break, even using things like the computer, the sink, the shower, the washing and dryer, hoping one would breakdown, but none have, so how am I supposed to fix something when there is nothing broken?
Now I am afraid that I am not going to be able to finish this event just because I have nothing to fix. I mean my Sims is already at the top of her handiness skill, so she doesn't need to learn anything for that, but she can't fix something that isn't broken.
Not sure why I came here, but I am feeling desperate here, it doesn't seem to be a bug, unless something was supposed to break after that came up as the next thing to do, so that's why I didn't go to technical difficulties.
I mean is there something I am missing here? I've done everything else, just need to fix something so I can make the time travel component,

Are you playing on PC? If so, just activate testingcheats & shift click on like a sink (or whatever you want) then break it using the debug option! That's what I did, I wasn't about to wait around for something to break lol. (Also, you can do it on console too but I don't know if testingcheats disables achievements on console, so check that first if you're a console player.)
If you don't want to use cheats, just enable the Gremlins lot trait (I believe it came with City Living?), that will cause things to break too.

So that cheat is still available as long as you type in testingcheats on?! Too late for me to use it, but it is still a good thing to learn!

I tried the testingcheats, tried to break a sink, but nothing comes up for that, same with anything else I checked, but then I couldn't adjust their needs either, so it might be turned off for the event for some unknown reason.
Did add the bad trait Gremlins, but after a day I figured it wasn't going to do anything in time.
I did turn weather on, but I decided I didn't want to wait for that either, so I found the weather controlling machine, whatever it's called, and put my Sims little record player outside turned it on and used the machine to make it rain, and then it worked great, so I manage to finish this weeks event, thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

You could try changing the lot trait where your sims live for this part of the challenge. The Gremlins lot trait is miserable and expensive for sims that have no handiness skills.

If you put a stereo outside in the rain, it can break. Then, your sim can repair it when it isn’t raining.

I did your idea, it worked, but I cheated a bit by using the weather machine to make it rain, and like I said it worked, so thanks to you I got to finish this weeks quests. And I am now enjoying this again, lol!

If you have Eco Lifestyle, there is the Landfill lot type that will spawn broken objects you can fix. Just putting this here in case anyone else has this issue. 😀
