Its because we live in a society that has propped up one group as the default/standard, therefore, they cant see why people want better optimization for darker skinned sims.
This is the case where I live (I don't live in the US).
I think Sims players of different backgrounds making themselves known to the developers as an audience of the game could never be a bad thing, especially if it makes it richer in future iterations.
And, man, unconscious biases are so hard to grasp (I mean, I keep discovering new ones of mine every week).
