Breeding with pets outside the household

Is it possible for a male dog to breed with a female dog that is not part of his household? I know female pets can breed with male strays, as I've had cats do this in the past, but I have a male dog that I want to breed with a female dog in another one of my played households, and I can't seem to get them to breed. Is this not possible or do I just need to keep trying?
  • Do you have 8 sims in your household?

Most of the time, I tell my pets to mate and the game acts as if it failed, but a few days later, the female will go into labor. If it's telling you it failed, just wait a few days (you have to anyway, as the option is grayed out for a while) and see if anything happens. If not, just keep trying. You could also try making sure that the male you added isn't fixed and that they are in fact the correct genders. I've made that mistake before.
  • Kia Ora all. I had my Jack Russell and golden retriever mate and they had a pup.pup is all grown up now and I have added another mix breed male into the house but am not able to breed from the female mix breed. she is not neutered
    help?

I had this happen just the once - my Sim's cat bred with a stray after I'd got the "Encourage to breed with _____" interaction. But I've tried since and it's never worked.
