I agree! Most of it is nostalgia for me as well. I've forgotten a great deal of the older details, but the cut scenes (ex. When your sim gave birth and got abducted in 2), visiting a neighbor without loading screens, and the narmy 'intimidate' interaction among others vamps (better add werewolves calling their own pack to hunt to that, which was awesome) could do in 3 really stood out for me. And the fairies! It was so interesting to watch them 'bloom' in their little gardens. I loved finding out about all the premades and reworking their backstories to be included in my simself's storyline. Strangetown will forever be my favorite neighborhood, the low-key evidence of alien activity, Bella's reappearence, and feuding families had me intrigued from the start.
A few other things:
It actually seemed special to celebrate your 'Golden Anniversary'. The 'faithful' moodlet from 3. When a date failed, you might've received a bag of 'poo' on your doorstep, lol. Sitting in the car listening to music whlist chatting with another sim. A child sim running to their parent after they come home and drive the car into the garage when work has ended, the initiation event when joining a Greek House, the strange Tricou family, weddings where the families would actually attend, meeting Bigfoot, learning karate, more after school activities (like prom, ballet, art), robots...
There was a bunch more, but I'm sure others will remember.
What always kept me coming back is that each phase of the Sims has its quirks unique to that game. Even if I became bored over time, I can just replay the previous games and still find something to like about it all over again. Anyway, that's me at least. ;)
