its all the little quirks that helped make this 'life simulation' life like. the little videos from sims2 were adorable (woohoo in hottub, first kiss, proposal etc etc) but my fave was when a baby was born and we could see its genetics - i always like to add elf ears into the mix and it was awesome seeing if the baby had elf ears or grey eyes etc.
i also miss the newspaper. i get annoyed at the sims4 being so technologically connected as not everyone on the planet is. there are those that only have a mobile for emergencies (which is often times turned off (i know that from jobs ive had)) and dont have a computer. those people will often have a tablet or may rely on the newspapers or news on tv. id like the newspaper to make a return, it could even be expanded to include a death notices list like real newspapers have so our sims could check for deaths. checking for deaths would invite a sad moodlet of course but IMO thats better than being harassed by death calls and sms. i also liked how the newspaper had coupons (sims3 i think depending on trait ... frugal maybe?) or stories and only a select job so that if u wanted your sim in a particular career path u either had to 1) wait for a newspaper with that job, 2) have a computer to look for said job or 3) sims3 specific get ur sims butt down to the career location and join that way.
i also liked in sims2 how u had to make ur sim travel to a particular lot to buy a mobile if u wanted one. im pretty sure the same lot had ipod type things too but it meant if we didnt want our sim to be harassed by calls/sms we could avoid it completely as it was optional.
from sims3 i LOVE LOVE LOVE (cant stress enough just how much love i have) the skills journal. sure i could max all the skills in sims3 and get the same level bonuses as sims4 - for example: handy: level x: ur chances of electrocution reduce. groovy. with the skill journal i can have that same bonus and more. tying into that i love the recipe books and how each WA world added their own unique ones too. its nice that san mushyno has unique recipes from the stalls but id like the option for all my sims to learn it without travelling there and a book is the perfect solution. it was a nice little thing for me to see the sim sitting in the sun outside the bookstore of sunset valley learning new things.
as stated above i miss the roly poly way they sleep from sims3 and how couples would snuggle and spoon throughout the night. first time i ever saw that my sim world was rocked as it was like the sims were actually little people.
i miss the carpools to work and seeing how the car got more and more fancy as the sim progressed. im pretty sure one iteration had a top job leaving in a helicopter.
i miss them choosing a variety of skill items for fun. i can have every skill item in the house and it seems by default they choose: exercising on equipment - never the pool if ones there - a computer game - be it their mobile, comp, or tv/game system - or watching TV. it seems that painting isnt a form of fun anymore as ive noticed since seasons has come out at least (pretty sure this occured before) but if theyre tense they wont paint which seems odd.
i miss having to work for friendship/romantic relationships. in sims3 if i want my married couple to have a baby, i need to work hard through my romantic interactions until try for baby appears whereas in sims4 if theyre married, or romantically high enough, i click whatever woohoo compatible object is around and my sims will try for a baby.
its been a little while since i played and i cant even remember if they have thought bubbles anymore. sims3 sims are constantly thinking little thoughts but cant recall if sims4 do.
i also miss the ability to take photos properly. im pretty sure in previous games our sims could take photos of/with whoever they wanted. my sim cant take a photo of her with her toddler which means no nice photo on the wall. she cant take a photo of him either so i need to take a photo of someone either holding him or the general area and hope theyre lining up enough to get a good photo.
i miss learning songs from locals in sims3 WA and then teaching other sims those same songs.
