But why can't they fix the camera?

I know I've talked about this before in other people's threads, but seriously; this game has been out for 8 years, and yet if you go above ground level and try to focus in on something, the camera darts away and floats off into space like a scared rabbit.

Seriously; is it THAT hard to fix? Is this rocket science?

Who else is annoyed by the camera action above ground level?

  • When I was doing the screenshots on my redo of Garden Essence I ran into that. I wanted several shots at ground level, and needed just a little nudge one way or the other and like you say, the camera is off to the moon. And it's easy to make it fly away but a pain to get it back down to ground level. It's almost like herding cats to get it back to where it was right before it flew away.
  • Yup, it's oober annoying alright.

    - Trying to build upper levels and the camera is jumping around, so you have to turn and try to zoom from different angles until the dang thing cooperates....
    - Trying to get zoomed in screenshots at certain angles and the camera jumps over to some other angle or it leaps way too far ahead throwing off your 'just right' camera view....
    - Trying to view something close up on one of the upper levels and the camera decides to fly away elsewhere because the hill/building/mountain on the lot next to yours it causing 'interference'....

    Annoying, annoying, annoying.
  • I posted about this issue in another thread here in June of 2019. I forgot all about trying it myself until I saw this thread. Hopefully it still works. Here's what I posted:

I have not tried this myself yet, but I've been tempted to try it a few times because camera bounce is one of my top annoyances when building in this game. The camera bounce supposedly has something to do with the 'IgnoreLotLevel' setting in the camera.ini file according to Mustikkapensas on a thread about this issue at Answers.EA.com. Here's what they say:

"You can disable the camera drift for some degree from the game files. I don't have the DLC so I don't know if it'll work there but you can try.

Locate you game folder (can be found in Origin > App. settings > Install & Saves > Game library location) go to \The Sims 4\Game\Bin\res and edit Camera.ini with any text editor. Find every "IgnoreLotLevel" (without quotes) and change them all to true and save.

Only drift I could see after that was on foundation level for some reason but it's barely even noticeable. Hope this helps."

I guess it's worth a try if you're not afraid of possibly messing up your game. Could always copy the camera.ini file's original contents first and copy them back if needed.

Good luck and I hope it helps! Happy Simming! <3
  • Before I mess around with things, is this the default TS4 camera or the optional TS3 camera? I've been using the TS3 since I got the game and don't seem to be having the degree of issues you folks are.

I use the TS3 camera too, and the problem happens when I'm trying to get ground level shots in an area that has lots of trees. If you get near one the camera jumps ups and it takes some work to get it back down to ground level like it was before.
