Butlers. When do they get paid?

I've just realized that I have never, ever seen my sim pay the butler. Didn't there used to be a weekly notification telling us how much we paid them, or am I thinking of TS3? I'm starting to wonder if their pay gets added to the bills that arrive by mail.

I don't know, I'm just uncomfortable with free labor. Like I've enslaved someone and pay them only by providing a roof over their heads, lol.
