Buying a pack with planning to use the main feature

This is my first new discussion on the new forum. Apologies if it doesn't look quite right. Has anyone ever bought a dlc without using the main feature? It kinda feels like a waste of money ...

I don't use the vampires, in fact I try to avoid them at all costs. However I love the items that came with it including Forgotten Hollow just to add a little excitement.

Generally when a new pack comes out I try it as intended then I drift back to my regular play but with all the extra goodies so I'm fine.
