Ahhh.... the wave of expected disappointment, a day early!!
To be honest, neither the Sims 3 WA nor the Sims 4 JA will ever have real danger. I have played WA for many hours and I never encountered a situation where my adventuring sim was close to death. Even with some unexpected traps (darts, etc.). Uncomfortableness, yes. Fatigued in the middle of tomb, yes. Near death? Nope. Never.
Can't argue with that. Nontheless, imho those we're more interesting take on traps. Though the mummy awakening can be taken as a trap, as you may or may not run into one when let's say stealing the loot from the loot and he is the real lethal one (can curse you and If your sim doesn't cleanse that moodlet they will die eventually).

I agree with those who wanted more dangerous traps in the Temple itself. I was looking forward to having some puzzles and obstacles and a little suspense, some unexpected surprises. I wasn't expecting any insta-death, but I was hoping that at least if a Sim's needs were low, it would increase the chances of perishing. But I also haven't watched much of any temple-specific footage because I want to leave some things open for my own errors, so I still don't know for sure what is possible and what isn't.
However, I also don't think we were completely discarded in our desire for danger, either. It would seem, from what I can tell from some "Let's Play" videos that I've seen, is that most of the risk is in the jungle itself and what the Sims encounter along the way. I watched one video where the player took a single Sim, bought a few supplies, went out to explore, and got stung twice by bees (was only equipped to overcome them for a single attack), lost her machete, and wound up in an unexpected area. I'm not saying any of these things couldn't be avoided, or that she was even being particularly attentive, but she did end up just bringing her Sim back to her villa to get her taken care of, so I didn't get to see what would have happened if she had just continued the journey and let things affect her Sim.
So I do think the devs were trying for some balance in this pack, just not in the way some of us would have expected, or hoped. Those who truly don't want to risk the lives of their Sims can always just hit the map button and bring them to safety, or be more cautious and selective when choosing the temple "traps". But those of us who want to take some deviant risks do have options to increase our chances by limiting our supplies, extending our Sim's time in the jungle, and playing all the way through to the end of the temple. No, it's not optimal for those of us who crave more challenge, but the stakes have been raised for this pack.
I intend to do an initial experiment with a large group and see if I can lose a few members during the adventure. I will create a thread on it if I have the time, so I can report my findings for those who are holding off and waiting for more details.
Please do. I hope there are dangers that can change the whole storyline with a twist for a long term.
