But it's not only danger or death that people want from it. It is even atmospheric. The temples don't feel unwelcoming or "scary", the skeletons inside for example are all friendly and all they do is crack up jokes.
I liked the darker aspect of the Vampires pack and I think that is why it was such a success. Because it allowed (not forced)the player to have proper scary vampires and do other things other than joking around and being happy.
In the common imaginary, people think of abandoned hidden temples as something thrilling. A mixed of scared and excited by the unknown emotions that I just don't see here.
I am still buying the pack because there are a lot of things that I really like in it but that doesn't mean I can't criticise and express my disappointment.
I get that, for sure. I think I haven't seen enough of the temple stuff to judge on that score but I would likely get it anyway because of the culture and Mayan/Aztec aesthetic. I'm hoping there's a bit more of the scary and unknown than people have seen, like what @Zeldaboy180 shared earlier.
I do understand the appeal for stuff that's more exciting, that feels more dangerous. I was all for a disaster pack or some kind of zombie survival sort of pack for TS4. I intensely disliked the zombies in TS3 because they were so annoying and silly--I wanted them to be scary and to have my sims turn fully into zombies permanently if they got bit (or die) so having them attack my garden instead was just irritating. In fact, I found the vampires and werewolves almost as silly, so I'm glad they've turned the vampires around in TS4 and hope they do the same for werewolves if we get them.
If people aren't able to tell the gurus what they do and don't like, they'll never change how they're making stuff. I feel like a lot of the reason vampires came out so well is because of all the input we all gave them back when they were working on it (don't make them sparkle, don't make them polite, etc.). So letting the gurus know that they didn't find the right balance on this one between dangerous/exciting and sandbox danger will hopefully mean they'll tweak the next pack with that in mind.
