Can a builder help me with a little problem?

I've built a house and using the terrain tools I built a sunken area out the back. The trouble is no matter what I do my sim cannot get into the house. I've tried removing the steps, lifting the build up, dropping it down, taking away the columns, removed the door completely she just cannot get in. I tried making an entrance on the top floor, she could get up the stairs but still couldn't get in.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how I can fix it?

  • Have you tried removing the wall lights from the door? Because they might just be causing the routing failure.
Alternatively, rebuy the door and place it again with the move objects cheat turned off. Because there might be other objects in the way that aren't visible in the picture.
  • I have tried taking the lights off, didn't help though. I'll try buying the door again though, thanks. One thing I didn't mention is the porch way outside the front door is not clickable, I cannot get her to move onto it, I did try removing the whole porch way and that didn't help either.
  • @simm621, what is the depth of that porch? Is it only a single tile between the door and the tiny step down? i seem to recall I had a problem with that once myself and have always made my porchways at least 2 tiles ever since. I might be recalling a different version of the sims and this isn't a problem in TS4, but somewhere in the past it was a problem for me.

Try removing the railing and putting the step offset from the door just to see if that fixes the issue.

BTW, that shot of the front of the house is great... at first glance, I actually thought it was a photograph of a real house, until i started scrolling the page.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I found the culprit, it was the roof above the door. Weird, I've never had that problem before.

@Stormkeep the porch is two tiles deep with the step pulled out as far as it will go. I don't normally like only having one step height but the first floor is actually below ground and raising the house any higher and it looks like it's floating lol and thank you :). This has taken me most of the day to get it as it is now, not too sure on the outside wall pattern though.
  • @simm621, I'm glad you found the problem ☺. Love the house, where did you get the door & windows, they're lovely.

Thank you :) They're from GF for the medium wall height.
  • @simm621 glad you found the problem, enjoy playing in your big house :)
