Can children explore the crypts?

I had a child with the macabre trait and one of her wishes was to explore the crypts in Ravenwood.  Try as much as I might I could never figure out a way for the child to enter the crypts.  Once she aged into a teen though she could go there and she went one weekend and spent the entire weekend just wandering in the crypts and amassed a ton of loot and gems and money.  I think if I hadn''t forced her to leave she would still be in there feeding the hissing reptile creature and sticking her hand into loose bricks and  lighting candles, etc.
