Can I Install an older Expansion Pack without updating the game to the newest patch?

So, I haven't updated my game since right after the patch for Cottage Living came out. Originally there were some bugs I was trying to avoid, then I was waiting for a mod to update, and it always seemed like just as I was ready to update my game, a new update would come out and I would have to wait for things to settle down all over again.

And now it's been over a full year.

I still don't want to update my game because it sounds like the bug situation is a hot mess right now, and I also don't want whims to be replaced with wants/fears (it was a cool idea for a feature update, just sounds like it's been terribly executed!). However, I really want to buy and play with Cottage Living.
Theoretically, I have the patch I would need to play that pack, since the last time I updated was for the Cottage Living patch (I think it was the pre-release patch to be specific). Every other time I've bought a new pack, Origin has always updated my game to the newest patch along with the new pack installation. Is there a way to install only the Cottage Living pack without all the patches that have come out since? And even better, since I'm sure Cottage Living had bugs on release, is there a way to pick how many patches my game updates to? Honestly if I could update to just before whims got replaced that would be perfect.

I know this was very do-able with Sims 3....but that was before Origin was a thing. Any help folks can give would be much appreciated!

  • Not sure, but I don’t seem to have too many more bugs than there were back then. I don’t use mods or CC, but I own all the packs and have all the updates. When you do update, make sure to make a backup copy before you update just in case.
  • From my experience (but I’m on console so it can be different experience) pre Cottage Living patch was pretty bad. It made occasional lag pop up here and there. My game is pretty smooth after last patch. I would update to the newest one as you gain fun stuff, body hair, new recipes new clothes, couple of hairstyles etc. Phone action got toned down and it’s acceptable for me right now (although I still hope Sims Summit will bring news of phone being optional lol). Also the lag issue is better than in Cottage Living era. I have almost no lag right now, expect for occasional hiccups right after entering bb mode (goes away after clicking option button). The same for simulation lag, despite what people are drumming on Twitter new patch is usually 98% better than old one. Overall game performance gets better.

One more thing: there was a bug with Cottage Living of foxes spawning or people having army of Agnes popping up in their games which caused lag (not sure because I don’t have this pack). It was fixed in later patches so you really should consider the newest version.
