Yep. As a Black woman myself, that part was a big face-palm. You know what Black moms say when their kids ask that? It basically boils down to, "Because melanin. You don't need a tan, and you don't sunburn as easy. Now, stop worrying about the 'why' and behave yourself in public so you don't embarrass your family and your people."
