Can you become unfamous?

I haven't started to get famous in the game yet but was wondering if once you are on top of fame if you can lose it too and have to keep working at keeping the fame.

Yes it does :( My sim got gold at one of his gigs and one fame point. He got his perk and after a while a quirk. But erm ... I guess Frederik hasn't really put in the effort he should've cause he lost his fame again (+ perk and quirk). Back to square (or star) one. Guess he'll have to start working at it a bit more :D But I love it, coz you could definitely create a struggling actor with this EP.

this sounds so good. I'm not into fame generally but this makes me want to have a famous sim.

Yes it's really a lot better than how fame worked in TS3. I was a bit afraid but after around 10 hours play, I can confirm fame doesn't happen overnight and if you don't do gigs and stuff, it's actually quite hard xD plus it reverts back, which is cool too. I also like that you can sort of make the star you want in terms of gigs etc. Like you could only do music related stuff, only commercials, only romantic stuff, .. it's well done really :)

I decided to start playing the sim placed in Del Sol. She starts with one star, and within two days, she lost it. So not only will it go down, but it takes away any of the earned quirks (which could be a good or a bad thing). If you want to reset the quirks, I think that's the only way to do it. I haven't gotten to 5 stars yet, but it says that once you do, it'll stop decaying.

There are at least two ways to reset quirks (besides using cheats.) There's a potion reward, and a helmet that uses crystals.

I think it can be? Mostly you only get points from random events from what I can tell, though I did adopt a baby and when it arrived it had a fame point (though by the time she aged up to toddler it was gone)

Sims can also gain fame from skills -- I have a painter Sim and he gains a little bit of fame when he sells a painting. His fiancee (I really need to get them married soon, they've got three kids already) is a stylist, but gained some fame by writing books (she even got an award for writing). I've heard that babies having fame is a bug.

Yes, you can cleanse your fame. I do believe thats what it does

It just resets perks and gives the fame points back. However, when sim has no perks, they can step out of the spotlight (a button in the bottom left corner) which will remove all the fame, quirks, and fame points they have and make them unable to gain fame (untill you click on the same button, which is now called Step Into the Spotlight).

So yes, there are two ways to lose fame: By stepping out of the spotlight and letting it decay (the fame can only decay two levels).
  • One of my sims completed actor aspiration and celebrity aspiration too. He was ok with his 5 star level when he was single because I usually hang around all over town. But after the marriage, he suddenly got triple twins daughters and he had to be stuck at home for a week, then I got an alert his fame is fading away... So I think it's still decaying even though he completed both aspirations. If you want to live just as a normal citizen, then you can stop it in game option. Then your sim will be safe.
  • As far as Fame and how it deteriorates, Fame ranks can only go down as far as two levels from when you were before, and not even reaching 5 stars makes you safe from Fame decay either unless you completed the aspiration that gives you a reward trait that stops decay permanently. So if you have a 5-star celeb and you neglect keeping up their Fame, they could only end up dropping down to 3 stars and nothing further.
