Can you get rid of the ghosts?

So, if an unplayed household elder dies, will they still show up in "manage households?" My sim's mom died and she still calls him to invite him out to the bar! It's strange and I don't like it. She still shows up in his relationships panel. She was a part of a "played household" but she doesn't live there anymore because she died. I didn't see her die so there's no gravestone. Should I select all those households I've got as "played" to "unplayed" so that the ghosts will clear themselves out?

I only have the base game and parenthood. I'm tired of deleting all the old sims in my game before they die. This is just a big question I have.
