Cannot delete grilled food

Cross posted to EA Help forum, but though you wizards might know the answer before they get back to me:

I was cleaning up the Family Inventory, and saw an object "grilled food," which must have appeared after a grill or some table was auto-moved into the inventory. I was unable to sell or delete the item, just drag it into the world. I thought perhaps the Sims would be able to throw it away, so I dropped it in the middle of their kitchen (bad idea!).

Now the grilled food has gone bad, which gives them the Uncomfortable debuff, while they refuse to pick up the food.

I'm also unable to delete it in Buy/Build mode or even pick it up to move it elsewhere. Shift+Click with cheats enabled only gives the option to Reset Object, not to delete it. Reset does nothing.

I'd rather not have to burn the whole house down to fix this issue... Suggestions?

I found a workaround, but it was hardly ideal....

I built a room around the grilled food, then used Move Room to drag the room outside into the yard. From there I was able to use the sledgehammer to delete the quarantine room and everything in it, which luckily, included the grilled food!

This left me with a hole in the kitchen, but I was able to drag over the empty space to re-fill in the foundation and floor.

Hilariously, the grilled food is now back in my family inventory, but I will just leave it there until a real solution presents itself.

I had the same problem but I have no idea what grilled item it was and it was in the bedroom. I did what you did and it moved it to the middle of the backyard. It's still better than middle of the bedroom! ;P
  • Same thing happened to me with an empty plate of hotdogs. I ended up saving the house to my library and moving my sims temporarily to another house in the world (so they wouldn't lose jobs and friends) then bulldozing the original lot including the stuck empty plate.... replaced the house, moved back in my sims.. and carried on playing. All my sims are banned from grilling and taking the left overs home now! lol

See if you can put it on a grill and finish cooking.

This is what I did when I had a similar problem, I bought a grill and then was able to fully cook it.
  • I went through this kind of thing too and then I just save up and went on with my game , two Sim days later I noticed what had been "stuck" was gone - puff. Same with the plate just outside my houses boundary , after a few Sim days it was gone.
  • I have this too. Haven't read what everyone said but it's an issue with OR. Problem is, once you go back from vacation, every object on your rented lot (+ all things you have used to fish) are returned to your family inventory.

To avoid: Make sure you have no unfinished food on your grills in Granite Falls (I'm unsure if it's only your rental lot or anywhere)

So I just ran into this problem and came here to find a solution. In the process of putting a room around the food I noticed that I was able to build a wall through the area the hotdogs were in and they were deleted!!! Hope this helps you fellow simmers.

Hello @JessieeBee :) Welcome to the forums!
It is great that your issue has been fixed! Thankyou for sharing that building a wall deleted the food in your game :)

Was just trying to find a solution to a grilled fruit problem and nothing was helping except your solution. Thanks so much!!
  • Ran into this problem while I was play-testing a lot I was about to put up in the Gallery and one of the sims visiting the lot made grilled cheese sandwiches. When I went into build mode, the plate was still there so I worried how this would affect the download.

The solution above still works! I dragged the plate in an empty area outside my house, made a tiny room around it, then sledgehammered it away. I think it actually got deleted as soon as I put a wall on top of it but still had to make sure!
  • Unfortunately, neither of these tips worked for me. So.. I just placed the burgers over my current grill (using the room movement) and they act as "just being grilled" burgers.

Thanks for sharing your workaround folks :) I'll lock this thread now as it's been necro'd two times. Cheers.
