Does deleting the floor tiles around the sprinkler so that it's on the lot grass help at all? Like, where ever its area of effect is just delete the tiles there? Perhaps you could make a cute indoor display area with the sprinkler and flowers and such
Oh like I said in an earlier post I don't have floor tiles in mine (: (I'm not using planters) instead I just used the ground and placed terrain dirt for the most natural looking greenhouse I could create. I'm sure there are greenhouses that exist that have flooring, but I'm not used to those kinds. I'll add a picture at the bottom for reference since the visual would make more sense.
But yeah even if you don't have flooring it still won't let you place it. What it is is that if its a fully completed room you're not allow to place it. It'll tell you "must be outside." So dumb :(

...but sprinklers indoors will just create a huge puddle that a sim will be forced to mop up. I’ve seen some place no floor tiles in their greenhouse to make it more natural, I suppose like that it will allow for one indoors
I don't have any floor tiles in it? Otherwise you couldn't exactly call it a greenhouse =p
Its just dirt flooring but it still won't let me place them indoors. And I don't care about the puddles. You could always just leave puddles there and it wouldn't bother your sim. I just think its silly that in the previous games you could place sprinklers indoors but for some reason they decided to prevent that in this game."IceyJ;c-16569495" wrote:
I never give up when this game tries to stop me from doing something I want to do. o:) I was building a store that sells seasonal supplies. Don't remember exactly how I did it. I think I placed it outside near the building, then stretched the walls out to cover it. You could also place it anywhere outside and build the room around it.

Thanks for that idea. I guess I could try it, but its a hassle considering I've already taken the time to build the greenhouse. I'd have to pretty much dismantle it, place the sprinklers, and then rebuild it all over again.... there should be a much easier way. Like them just simply letting us place it indoors.
You don't have to dismantle anything. Simply bulldoze a piece of the wall. Place the sprinkler, then put the wall back. I'm pretty sure the game only considers it indoors if the room is fully enclosed.
That's true! But for my particular situation I really would have to pretty much redo everything. Oops I should have been more clear. Not the building itself, but the things inside of it. My lot has a foundation, so consequently I had to build my green house with a foundation as well and delete the flooring in it so that I had access to the ground. If I take out ANY section of wall now and replace the wall after placing the sprinklers then for some reason the game automatically places the foundation flooring back and consequently all of my plants and objects inside are deleted in the process (yes I've already planted a ton of stuff in it =\). I could remove everything outside of the building and then do it and then afterward delete the flooring again and put everything back inside, but that's way too much of a hassle. And considering I may need to move the sprinklers in the future, or add more and I'd have to repeat this process since you can't normally place the sprinklers, overall its just not worth it.
Unless you or anyone else has advice on working around the foundation problem.... =\ which for me has always been an issue since the foundation tool makes every building on the lot have a foundation. Thank you though for your advice, I'm sure it'll help others who don't have my particular predicament :D

I don't know why we would be restricted to placing sprinklers in greenhouses since they can water the plants. I wonder if this could be a bug.
Well technically greenhouses aren't an actual thing built into the game, they are something you have to create yourself. In Sims 2 they actually had greenhouses in the form of tools provided in build mode to create them, but it doesn't matter I guess since with walls and windows you could pretty much replicate the same thing. Its even better now with glass ceilings added. But like I said in Sims 2 and 3 you were able to place sprinklers indoors, underground, anywhere. So it doesn't make sense why they placed such a restriction on the sprinklers in this game.
But anyway once again I managed to solve a problem EA's poor decision-making has caused me with mods. I just downloaded a custom-made sprinkler (and no surprise, you can place it indoors). Since removing a wall and replacing it afterward isn't an option for me this was the best solution I could find For others who may also need this: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=606757. I'm using it right now in my game and so far its functioning perfectly.
Thanks all though for the tips and advice. I'm really disappointed in EA on this one. They should think more carefully and make better considerations for things like this. You know what they say - its the little things that count.
Oh and here's the picture of the greenhouse so everyone knows what I was talking about.
