I tried a bunch of stuff and ended up creating a 'shell' greenhouse (floor dropped out in an inner area), placed my plants directly into the ground, then deleted a panel of the wall (this does not delete the roof, and is only temporary, but allows it to not be 'inside'/enclosed anymore), add the sprinklers, re-add the wall panel (so it is a closed building again), and the sprinkler function. In my Origin gallery I have this greenhouse if you want it - whole ("Botanist Earth Greenhouse") just the 'shell' ("Backyard Greenhouse Shell") that you add plants and sprinklers to ("Plants for Greenhouse"). You will need to upgrade the sprinklers to 'unbreakable' and 'no puddles' or they will break quickly and make puddles that bother the Sims. Have fun with your greenhouse!
