I would just really like to see more careers catered to different personality traits. Something for mechanics, something for techy sims, etc. Personally I'd love to see the Education career in the base game. It's such a standard career, it should be there just as much as law or medicine is. Maybe at a certain level they'll reach high school teacher and they could choose a certain subject to teach. Eventually college professor would be one, and the top could be Principal or Superintendent. :P
I really think there should be a lot of career types. I mean think about it, it's a huge part of our sim's time and life so it's really important. :P I really hope they expand the different career tracks. On the side of the career tracks, I'd also like to see single jobs that you don't advance in just to give your sims more options. These jobs could include random things like nanny/babysitter for nurturing sims, etc.
And quite honestly they can keep the standard career track system but I'd also LOVE to see them add a system of difficult careers where once you obtain skills, you can then try to apply for those special careers.
I also really love this idea:

I think psychiatrist/psychologist would work great with the new emotion system and the risk of dying from emotions. You could have a shrink calm your sim down, and make an actual career out of it (could be an additional branch of the medicine career). As we know, promotions unlock new objects in TS4, so the psychiatry one could be the stereotypical couch where your sim can have family members/friends lie down and talk about their feelings while he/she listens, kind of like the lemonade stand in the sims 3. This could have the effect of changing emotions (i.e. depressed sims could become more neutral, angry sims more calm etc.).
EDIT: I'm also kind of disappointed that in Pets we didn't get any animal-related careers. When we get a pets EP for TS4, I'd love to see them introduce veterinarian, and maybe some part-time jobs at an animal shelter or doggy camp. :P The title of the career track could just be called "Animalcare".
