I actually didn't know carpet was so unpopular IRL! But then I walk around the house in bare feet when it's warm enough, so carpet is the most comfortable for that. It also avoids the issue of slipping if you're just wearing socks.
So many people hate on carpet, I don’t get it. I have hardwood, carpet, and tile in my home and carpet is probably the easiest to maintain IMO. I guess not if you have kids/pets, but in that case nothing is easy to keep looking good.
Hardwood is prone to scratching. If you have wood, you almost have to have an area rug under everything or you will have a damaged floor (and with how expensive wood floors are... yeah no). Area rugs are just as pricey these days for a decent quality one. I spent like $230 on my area rug, and it’s been a lifesaver for the floor. Carpet is also just cheaper to buy, and a lot more flexible. I spent forever looking for a wood floor that wouldn’t look out of place in my home, I picked out my carpet in like 10 minutes. Carpet is just so much easier.
