Developers don't like the idea of providing options for simmers with diverse playstyles. A mod for enabling controllable pets was released, which from the users feedback I heard that have it installed it doesn't interfere the autonomous pets AI for players who simply don't want to control pets (i.e. have pets interact with objects upon simmer's command) and thus are satisfied with it (even those who only have it for the sake of checking stats/info of a pet). If they would just release that as a vanilla feature, it would be a win-win for everyone. Those players who want the challenge of unpredictable pets, they can just ignore queuing up interactions for pets. Those who don't want the challenge - they're welcome to control them.
