I was having a different issue with Meet and Greets, in that they didn't seem to count as Parties for the Party Animal Aspiration.
I was hoping to knock two birds out with one stone, getting my fame up and getting this aspiration complete, but the game didn't count it as a throwing a party.
I ran into the same issue with Throwing Charity Parties, too.
Though with Meet and Greets, I was also having no success with completing the "Have 3 Sims Dancing at the same time" in that it only ever counted my Sim.
