Changing career branches

Something which I thought would be very simple has turned out to be a nightmare. Has anyone found out how to change your career branch? I accidentally clicked on a career branch. After wasting a lot of time, I just quit without saving.

I've tried

  • careers.demote cheat - My sim got fired
  • Quitting and reinstating - Went to same branch
  • Quitting, joining different career, and then going back to original - still same branch

I'm surprised with this. Any ideas or talk about getting this issue fixed? I've seen a few people frustrated for their legacy sims or trying to satisfy achievements and aspirations.
  • I don't think it's possible aside from saving the sim to your library and then replacing the original with the saved version. You'll lose relationships like that, though.

Once you choose a branch, it's pretty much permanent. Using the demote cheat at the lowest level of the branch makes you lose your job. Luckily, I don't think any two of the aspirations require you to be in multiple branches of the same career.
  • There may be a cheat to promote a Sim to a specific career level. I wasn't aware that you couldn't demote down to before the split without a sim getting fired first. What happens when they try to rejoin the career after being fired from it? Do they start on the same level as well?

I'm fairly certain there isn't a way to just switch a branch without using a mod. If I'm remembering correctly MCCC will allow you to basically demote down to before the career split and you can re-choose it that way. At least it used to allow that I'm not sure if it does anymore. There also THIS standalone mod however it hasn't been updated since 2015 so I don't know if it works any longer.

I agree it's really annoying that you can't have one sims do all the careers without the use of mods/a lot of monkey work. This definitely needs to be changed but given that it's been that way since the game's launch I doubt it's going to get changed at this point.
  • Guys, you can use the MC Command Center to change career branches. I can't post links yet so just Google it :)
  • I remember there being a mod than let you do this, and I tried it out.
With my current game ver (which is the latest patch), it doesn't work. It apparently did work b4, but I'm not sure if the author hasn't updated it or if it's actually not possible.
I also wanna try and get other career branches to fully complete the game (since I am somewhat completionist), but this part of the game mechanics is kinda annoying. Either there is a mod to do this, or EA makes it possible in a later patch.

Looking at it, I can't see the command... Do you know which one it is?
