Chickens and crops in household inventory

Just as the title says. I went into my household inventory while building and lo and behold there were chickens and loads of crops. How the chickens got in there I will never know but they come out starving and it takes ages to make them happy, you feed them and they ignore the food. Had a crop of over 300 potatoes and I only have maybe 4 potato plants, so when my sim was selling the potatoes they were going in the household inventory, well that's what I think. Anyone else found weird stuff in the household inventory. Oh and it wasn't from moving, I cleared it right after they moved house. I bet if I go in again today there will be more.

Edit** No they didn't move house after they started the farm.
No they didn't travel after starting the farm, so no, plants didn't need harvested before they went.
No, there were no hatchable eggs in the inventory and one of the hens was one I'd named.

Yes it's a problem, this makes the bills higher as the lot tax is calculated on what possessions sims have, in the fridge and in the inventories.

Did your Sim move recently? If you move and keep all the furniture, any plants in household inventory that hadn't been harvested will have the harvested produce separately (note: if you have a money tree that's a great way to get more seeds, especially if you want to have some to give your kids when they move out). Maybe same thing happens with chickens as well.

Not me. I think the theory above that ready-to-harvest crops just "pops" into your inventory if you travel outside the world sounds right. Seems to fit with what I experience.

No they hadn't moved outside the world

I’ve been having issues with crops going into my household inventory since Cottage Living or the patch that came just before it. I’ve never had a chicken go in there yet though.

Everyone coming up with ideas and we know it's just happening. My Sim uses supersell every day on the crops, every morning, so no harvestable plants sitting through the day. The chickens, I'd named them at the start when I first started the farm, gave up on that now because they die so fast, the one in the inventory was Muriel so wasn't hatched in there. Must be a bug but it's putting up the taxes (bills).

Seems like crops go into the household inventory when they’re on the plant and you travel. Taking things out of the household inventory individually is madness.

You can delete them 99 at a time from there

Yeah I know you can sell them but you still have to click for each individual item first. And I don’t grow stuff just to sell it. I grow it to use in receipes. It’s SO annoying dealing with the household inventory when there’s multiples of things. Why can’t we just drag them all into the fridge.

OK, you're talking about something completely unrelated, thanks anyway. Let me explain, you are clearly talking about the Sims individual inventory where they harvest crops too. I am talking about the household inventory you can only reach through build mode. When I mentioned selling crops it's obvious I'm running a farm and not a garden. Oh and FYI, you can sell them in multiples both ways, you can also put a full batch of say, onions, in the fridge together.
  • This has been happening off and on in my game for a while. I try to have my Sims check their gardens early because I've watched plants revert to dirt clumps sometimes at 7:00 AM when they're at home and sometimes at 9:00 AM when they're at work. It's not until they return from work that I find carrots, snapdragons, basil, and strawberries in their household inventory. The quality and sale price matches what they have in their gardens. If I'm growing something for a specific recipe I want it in my personal inventory and not my household inventory. Having to take one harvestable at a time out of the household inventory to transfer it to the refrigerator is a nuisance.

I was playing Vlad a few weeks ago and noticed that 44 strawberries would appear in his household inventory every morning. The sale of those strawberries paid the weekly bill amount on the mansion which came close to $7,500. When I looked at them on the ground or on a counter they were normal quality strawberries but they sold for $44 each. Although he did have four strawberry plants none of them were producing $44 strawberries. This only happened with Vlad.

I also had a chick and a hen, a named hen so it didn't hatch there.

  • I had to reset my household into a brand new game save. My bad. I had no clue that the chickens were even in my household inventory from the time I saved the lot into My Library. When I downloaded it again, I saw the empty coop ( I uploaded the very same lot, since it was the very same Sim and placed the lot into the brand new game save. I also placed my Sim and his family back into the lot. And started them over with a Rooster and a Hen.) :open_mouth: Now, I have chickens in the inventory and no way to remove them! (We won't talk about the pile of stinky leaves he accidentally raked into a pile just beyond his property limits.) No crops are in my inventory, else I could just place them into the fridge.

When my sims travel, if they have harvestables on their plants, they go into the household inventory. That’s what I thought this thread is about - plants going directly into the household inventory. Do you think they ended up there because you sold them directly off the plants? I don’t know, I never use that option. Maybe there is a different reason your plants are ending up there. Plants are so buggy right now. Sometimes I think the harvestables end up in the household inventory when the plants reset randomly.

Oh and FYI, you can’t drag harvestables from the household inventory into the fridge. You have to click sell and then raise the number you’re selling, one by one. That’s what my post was saying.

You can click on them and place them back beside the coop, I've done it a few times lately, treat them like an object. The leaves, get him to pick them up.
