You can start a protest with your sim but I think you have to pick a cause first.
How do you pick a cause? I need to donate to a protester. but, I can not find any. So, I figured I can start my own I guess lol

To pick a cause when in the political career, click on your sim, then click on the political career section, then in the sub menu you will have the choice of choosing a cause. Then click on the ground to start a protest. Use the interaction to ask others to join the protest. Then when other sims join the protest, cancel out your sim protesting, then donate to the protester.
This can only be done though if your sim works in the political career.
