It seems that people will never be happy, everyone keeps on talking about features that have been removed from the game. The Sims 4 is a completely new game from The Sims series. You need to look at it as, features have not made it into the base game, and not features have been removed.
Like all games you need to give it a chance and see if you like it then, not ridicule and bash it, from what other people have said, and not even see what the game has to offer for yourself.
The issue most people have is one of perspective. They have chosen to market The Sims 4 as a sequel, not a total reboot (as they did last year with SimCity). Because of this, many people have some reasonable expectation that core features and long time staples which have previously been included in the base game would continue to be. I'm not talking about expansion pack content. People who honestly expect to be handed ep content right out of the box are fooling themselves. The perception is that there will not be as much to do with The Sims 4 base game as there was with The Sims 3 base game (excluding ANY expansions). This is partly the fault of the marketing that has been done though. They keep showing us the same things over and over and over again. The perception is that that's all there is. They can say, "There are more objects in this game than any other base game" all they want. They haven't shown them to us. Keep in mind too, they may actually be counting each "style" of the same item as a separate object when they make that statement. It is, after all, a marketing statement which definitely have a tendency to be worded very carefully and very intentionally.
If they had marketed this game as what it appears, for all intents and purposes, to be (a reboot), then expectations for returning features would be lower. Rightfully so, I might add. It's silly to expect people to look at something which is intentionally be marketed as a "sequel" through the same lense as a "reboot" though.
(Edit: Fixed Typo. That's what I get for sitting up all night... no... NOT on the forums)
I absolutely agree with your point about marketing. I don't remember too much about TS3 marketing except that I saw a commercial for it on TV and decided I had to have it right then. I don't watch too much TV now, but I haven't heard anything about commercials for this game.
That being said, I'll have to contest your point about the object styles being counted in that 1000 number. There's some pictures from Creator's Camp that show the thumbnail for 800 objects (I for the life of me can't find the link) and there were things not included in those pictures like showers (which we've seen in gameplay footage).
As for clipping, I agree that it's irritating. I'd rather not experience it all, but I'm willing to put up with a little if it means I won't have sims canceling important actions because there's a magical gnome in the way. I have 99 routing problems and magical gnomes are 98 of them. :p
