Clones

It was a while ago but I think you can get an evil clone where one trait is exchanged for evil. There is also clones that get red eyes that you can't get in CAS, I think it's connected with you getting the evil clone.

@ModerateOsprey Thanks for bringing this up. I too had the pack since release but never explored the clone option. I assume it requires a well skilled Scientist? Do you know what career level?

Yep. I'm an ambassador of clone-based gameplay.

The patriarch of my vampire family cloned a paparazzi he was interested in, and raised her clone to be his loyal wife and sireling. At the time I'd used a mod that allowed for the age of the clone to be chosen, but honestly you could get away with using a trait potion from the reward store to change one trait per major shift in values or major life events, if you so chose.

Before the aforementioned, one of my simselves cloned himself a wife, too (then there was a whole thing about killing his wife's original, because she was bent on ruining their relationship and outing him for his unethical creation).

One of my current storylines has a scientist live his life, then clone himself just before elderhood, that way he could carry on his legacy and explore other facets of life through his clone.

There's so much you can do with clones.

"Evil" clones can have "Mean" and/or "Evil" take the place of one/two of their originals' traits. They have a chance to also have red eyes, and (in the case of the males) a goatee.

Level 8 of the career allows you to upgrade the machine to clone sims. I've documented everything here.

From Carl's Guide:

Cloning Machine
(Level 5, 2 Common Metals, 2 Common Crystals)
Can be upgraded at level 8. The cloning machine requires you to place an object upon it. When a valid item, such as a collectible is placed, that object can be cloned. This can be very handy to making serums, as well as any other item in the game that you need more than one to make something. You can save a lot of money on food with this, as meals can be cloned, as well! To clone an object multiple times, just take the new one off and clone the original again. When upgraded, it will let you clone a Sim! The new Sim will join your household and have the same traits and appearance as the original, though there is a chance they get some evil clone traits, like mean or evil. They will not, however, have any of the Skills of the original, nor a Career.

I wonder how often these posts are updated. From my testing, they do retain skills. That said, it's likely an update to how cloning works, due to RoM's own clone-generation. Same with how the sales table works due to Eco, and how teleportation works now.

Does make me wish Maxis was more forthcoming about every feature they alter with each pack, including background ones.

This made me curious. What exactly has changed about sales tables and teleportation?

I have read somewhere that RoM clones are supposed to be temporary while get to work clones are permanent. Is that still true? So far the only 'clone' I played was one I created in CAS but after reading here, I want to try playing a real clone.

Summer Holiday cloned herself with the Get to Work machine. “Winter” Holiday is exactly the same as Summer, but has the “evil” trait. I gave her the anti-valentine aspiration. And she’s destroying the relationships of the men who dumped Summer.

Sales tables used to draw in customers from the area, rather than doing so through spawn points. It was never guaranteed you'd make a sale, and there were multiple options (similar to the retail system). Now it's guaranteed you'll get at least one sale per group spawned, and there is only one option ("give sales pitch"). If the other options are still there, I haven't seen them lately.

Teleportation (Transportalate, Bat Form, and Mist Form) used to only be capable of getting you to places you could route to. Medi-portation (Spa Day) could get you even to places with obstructions, so long as there was somewhere to stand. Now all 4 work the same, with less restrictions for the Vampire and Spellcaster options.

RoM clones are still temporary, but (as before) can be made permanent if brought into the household (if I'm remembering correctly). What I mean by it having possibly changed the cloning system, is that perhaps the clone made through magic matches more closely to the original, than they used to with only GTW, hence a carrying-over of more attributes. It could also just be due to an update. Who knows with Maxis.
