I did a search for "young couple interior colours style" and there were quite a few nice designs to see. I found some of them pretty bland though - they seem to like a lot of white and light timber frames. IKEA has a lot to answer for.
Different coloured feature walls can look good though. Something bold that adds a point of interest to the room. Coloured lighting.
My first thought on seeing your screenshot up above though, was to have a sort of rich yellow where you've got the pale blue walls. It'd tie in with the curtains and the cane blinds beside the fireplace.
But hey, that's just me. There's no accounting for taste, and what clicks for you might look like a dog's breakfast to someone else.

Funnily enough i did have Yellow as my first attempt but it was on every wall and it felt too much Yellow.
Using the yellow suggestion, i've come up with this so far and added a new divider by the kitchen and front door:
