All my Sims have a favorite color as well. Sometimes I just choose the color based on how they look, their traits/aspirations or sometimes I just pick a color I like. Most of the time this color is carried out to at least their bedroom and/or any personal space they may have in the home. But sometimes I also use this color throughout the home's interior, exterior and landscaping. Normally this happens only with a single Sim though. Once they have children or marry, it changes for the home's interior at least to compensate for the new Sims' color preference.
Depending on the Sims' personality, especially when maturing from child/teen/YA, their personal color might change over time. For instance, a toddler might be stuck with the color their parents prefer until they mature to a child and decide they like the color yellow, and might change again to black/red or black/purple, etc. as a teen if they're rebellious/goth or will be a vampire. Sometimes they'll still stick with yellow when not in dark mode though if a vampire. It just depends...
