Colour themes for households?

I've noticed that some of you play with colour themes for certain households for either decorating their houses or how your sims are dressed. I started my main household with an orange, yellow and green theme in Glimmerbrook as they are gardeners, but am having trouble figuring out themes for the rest of the siblings that have moved out.
So how do you guys work out what colour codes you will have for each household? any examples would be awesome.

I do this per individual, especially for Sims I don't play as often with. My save is generally really Sim-packed, so it makes recognition at a glance a tiny bit easier.

I give my sims favorite colors, which they normally use for clothing, bedding if possible, paint color on the walls of their bedrooms, that sort of thing, but no color themes for the household in general.
