Common spaces better than home?

I think I messed up in building my rental lot. My sims like it there better than their own house! Even though there is a computer in their home, they’ll opt for the one in the common space. They’ll get food from their fridge and use the counter in the common space. They’ll autonomously venture to the vending machines in the gym. Why?? And how do I stop this? I’ve since locked them out of all common spaces
