'cook together with' interaction

Is there enough counter space for two Sims to cook at? The Sim you have asked to cook with you (whether adult or child) will usually just prep/chop food at a free counter. In my experience, as long as there are atleast two free counter spaces then it should work just fine.
Edit: Incase adding more counter space does not solve your issue, I've found two threads on Answers HQ that may help:
