I've noticed in many builds people clutter up the counters with 'stuff'. Looks cool, but blocks all the counters.
Most houses on the gallery clutter the counters using move objects. That doesn't impede them using the counters. I do this all the time. Plus in the picture above, you can clearly see I have open space and the two children are not participating.
