Has anyone tried to go on vacation if they animals at home?

Update: I have answers about what happens to the animals... They leave. Vanished straight out of the inventory and left their clothes behind
There were a couple notifications asking to let them out of the inventory, then 2 warnings saying that they weren't happy (the same one you see at home when they need stuff), then the cow ran off.
For reference: They left for vacation between 8-9pm Friday, and it's Monday 3:21 am.
I'm cutting this trip short so as not to loose any more animals.. :/ but this does not bode well for anyone whose playthroughs involve long weekends, honeymoons, babymoons, graduation trips, etc.
