Cottage living not letting me buy animals

sorry if this has been posted or I am posting in the wrong spot, but I can't find anything.
I don't seem to have the option to purchase animals with the animal shed, the only options that come up are Create Animal Treats at Fridge, Refill Feed, Clean shed. Am I doing something wrong here?
