I see the current teenagers as quite old and I like that. I would not like a mandatory curfew or making them appear very young. They can live in an household all by themselves, I can see a 17 -19 year old living by themselves and managing school and getting something to eat. I find it much harder to believe that a 14 year old would have their own household. Or they don't feel like 14 years olds to me.

Children feel like 7-9 or there about and then it is quite a jump to the teens for me. But that is just how it feels to me. I would like to see more interactions and idle-things for the teens. Have no idea if we are getting a life stage inbetween kids and teens but it would be nice.


Still, I rate seasons and pets higher for my game. It would mean more to me. We will see what they end up working on.

This is a good point, lot of languages have 1-9 + 10, just like we have 1-9 +20. Which technically makes an 11 year old a teen already.

Where I am, kindergarten is what you attend prior to attending school, it is not really school, it's more about making sure a kid has the hang of how to play nice with others, so that they'll be ok with being around others when they attend school the next year.
A kindergartener here is a 4 year old, because you start reception (the first year of school) at age 5.

I highly doubt it. So much time and effort went into making toddlers, which makes it very unlikely that any more life stages will be added.
But I think they might add tweens in TS5, if it happens.

I mean free play has pre teens, so The Sims should add it eventually, but I wouldn't count on it. They should just fix teenagers lol

See, here in England, 10, 11 and 12 year olds are children. To us, children become teens when they hit their teen years (thirTEEN), hence the term. There is no 'pre', it's just 'child' or 'teenager'.

I'm not opposed to the idea of this life stage, I really just don't see the point of it, and how long will it last? 3 sim days? I'd rather just have better, fleshed out teens that *look* and act the part.

Not everyone plays with aging on so for me "3 Sim days" would not be the same as it is for you as I have not aged a single Sim since release except 3 babies. So preteen would be a permanent life stage changing my family dynamics greatly. Why do we have to settle for fleshed out teens or preteens why do we have to limit ourselves when we could make everyone happy.

But you wouldn't be making me happy having to deal with *another* life stage. I see no point to it, when they could flesh out the existing life stages. Why add more rubbish, when they could focus on what we *do* have? I don't want more life stages. We have enough. I want *better* life stages not more squashed in between the Ines we do have.

Pre teens just don't exsist in the real world. People are children until they become TEEN ages (numbers with TEN in them) it's basic logic. A pre teen is a child. That's it. And we have those already.

I don't understand you you think preteens don't exist because THEY DO. You are right, a preteen it is a CHILD. UNDER 13. Why is it so hard to understand? Pre- a prefix meaning before or previous
Teen- a young person between 13-19 years old

Pre+teen= preteen- a CHILD just under the age of 13; a preadolescent or pubescent

English is not the only language in the world, and I happen to speak two languages and the word teen in Spanish has nothing to do with the ending of each number. Even in English it doesn't make sense... when you hit nineTEEN you are no longer a teen so that argument is just awful sorry.

And what you consider a teen is not what other cultures consider a teen. Jews celebrate the 13th birthday , Americans the 16th birthday Latin Americans 15th birthday. So sorry to break it to you there is something in between children and teenagers. Even when kids are going through changes they are not considered teens yet, boys changing their voice, girls starting to develop and many other things are not characteristics of kids or teenagers.

Honestly, I don't care about pre-teens.. Just make the already existing ages more awesome, meaningful and alive.

I think we need to stop taking the word preteen so literally. Lately I've been trying to use the term "preteen/young teen" more often because what we need in the game (or at least in my opinion) is that phase where kids make the transition into a teen and go through puberty. So it should cover the ages around 12-14 years old and not just the ones of a preteen. The ages of each lifestage on the game are left to interpretation anyway, so it's not like they have to have a set age. For example, I see Young Adults being from 18 to 29 years old but I know a lot of people consider them to be over 20 to 35. An 18 year old person is considered an adult by law (in most countries), so to me, they are no longer a teenager in the game, because they are no longer in school. This could also be applied to a new lifestage between child and teen. I'm not sure what EA would call it, probably preteens, but I would play that lifestage through phases like I do with all the other ones. Just because it might be called preteens, doesn't mean they can't be over 13 in my game. Besides, what actually matters is the gameplay. Unfortunately, I can't pretend the current teens are younger than 16 years old because they look way too old and act too maturely to be that young. And I honestly do not think EA will change their appearance and behavior. It's not realistic to expect them to do that for a number of reasons. It's not a simple thing to do, it's not just about making the teens shorter and that's it, it's about changing something that is already in the game for years. It's probably as hard or harder than creating a new lifestage from scratch. Besides, they would make more profit with a new lifestage and they wouldn't risk infuriating people who like the teens as they are.

@To7m That's not very gracious of you. I do recall when toddlers weren't here, we (those who wanted them) had to deal with certain people saying the exact same things you're saying now ("they are useless", "I don't want them", "I'd prefer if Maxis would focus on something else"). You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but then again, if preteens get added to the game, they will be optional, just like toddlers. I do think all the other lifestages need to be more fleshed out, but we can't expect Maxis to change the way teens are now. That ship has sailed. Like it or not, they are meant to be older, they are never going back to what they used to be in previous games. I wasn't happy with the decision, but now I've come to terms with it and instead of asking for something that will most likely not happen, why not focus on other ways to compensate for it? That's just how I see it anyway. I'll gladly eat my words if they end up changing the teens, but I'm willing to bet anything that they won't.

I'd be ecstatic if they added preteens, but I don't think it's likely. I think it's much more plausible that they'd consider developing the current teen life stage more. I don't think they'll change the appearances of them, however. If they were to do anything, they'd probably add new interactions and animations. The height has always bothered me, but that's far too intensive of a task as they'd have to re-do all the current animations for them. To add curfews, groundings, acne, mood swings and more would definitely be a lot of work, but I can't imagine it'd be more work than creating an entirely new life-stage with all its animations, interactions, clothing, CAS features, etc. while ignoring others that need TLC (teens and elders). Granted, I know nothing about game development, design, or coding, so someone who does is free to correct me.

I'm just of the opinion that the current teen life stage needs attention before they should implement an entirely new one. I'd love to see teen-specific moodlets, teen-specific traits (reminiscent of the toddler traits) that they can grow out of, maybe quicker decay for hygiene and hunger when teens first age-up that last for a few sim days or so that represent the growing and changing of their bodies, teen-specific whims like the "lock a door" one but for things like having their first kiss or sneaking out, curfews and groundings, acne that pops up sporadically, crushes, mood swings, school events, and so forth. This is a totally random one, but I think it'd be cute for the teens who are in relationships to occasionally worry about hiding hickeys from their parents. I thought of this one after watching my teen sim's boyfriend autonomously kiss her neck three times in a row. :lol: Maybe the parents could even have the ability to question them about their dating life which would push an embarrassed moodlet on the teen. I think having more interactions, events, whims and such for them could certainly help to make them feel more like "teens", even if they appear older. It'd be a huge plus if they could make them look younger and shorter, but I guess they decided to make them appear older due to all their more adult interactions and dating lives. I'm really hoping we'll get a Generations-like EP that'll introduce new things for all life stages, but specifically the younger and older crowds since I think the YAs have had more than their fair share of attention. I guess time will tell, but it's fun to speculate and throw ideas out there. :)

Actually the name does have something to do with it. A nineteen year old is still a teenager, they are considered adult for some things in the world they are also still very much a teen developmentally. Just because some people celebrate at sixteen, or thirteen or whatever doesn't mean anything either. I personally celebrate all of my kids birthdays. You do realize that kids are constantly changing though, it's not like it's only this magically pre-teen stage that kids are changing or developing. Also many kids don't do the specific things you mentioned until puberty or even a year after it which is also not pre-teen.

It has nothing to do with that. There are many languages and the numbers were not inspired by life stages and let's pretend that's true. If medicine keeps getting better and better and we get to live way more and someone turns one hundred and thridteen years old he is a teenager? Also 19 year old is already considered an adult, even when it comes to development, there's always late bloomers some people can still be developing even in their 20s, that doesn't make them teenagers.

Of course a one hundred and thirteen year old is not a teenager, and actually there have been some who have lived that long already. Teenager ages are only in the double digits and end when you get to twenty. When I talk about development for when humans go from teen to adult, or child to teen I'm not just talking about physical attributes, but also brain development. A nineteen year old's brain is different then a twenty year old's brain.

I realize sims don't go by human ages, it's another reason why I don't feel like pre-teens are not necessary for sims. Sim ages are more of a range of several ages. I feel like the child life stage covers pre-teen in that range of ages.

Brain development? The brain is fully developed already, obviously they gain new experiences and all, but an 18,19 and 20 year old can accomplish the same things. Brain development happens for many reasons, but certainly not because their age ends in "teen" that makes no sense. Also because of 2 digits? Ok so from the age 10 to 99 we are all teens?

Yes brain development is different as you age, this is scientific fact. No from 10 to 99 we are not teenagers. I never said that and I'm not sure why you are. You are a teen if 1) you are in double digits. 2) It ends with teen. This starts at thirteen, and ends at nineteen years old. By law yes at eighteen you are considered an adult in the United States, but you are also still a teenager. It's just like a teenager can also still be a child.

Now going back on topic in sims 4 I see the children as being around the age ranges of seven to twelve years old, this covers both young child and towards the end of the stage pre-teen too. I see the sims teenagers as being around the age ranges of sixteen to nineteen years old. Again this is why I don't feel we need a pre-teen life stage. Instead I would love to see stuff given to both children, and teenagers that we have already.

If you want to talk about Brain development a "Preteens" brain develops way different than a child or a teen. Their brains rapidly growing and learning especially when they are 10-13 that's the age of hitting puberty in most also called a "Preteen" they are between growing out of the child age and into the teenage stage. At this stage they want to be independent from parents especially when friends around but they still act immature compared to a teenager.

Pre-teen is merely the ages before being a teen. A teenager is 13 to 19. The teen years, as the age ends with "teen". A pre-teen is a person just starting puberty or right before. This could include 8 or 9 year olds but mostly it refers to being 10/11-12.

Personally I think adding Pre-teen would be useless as the life stages aren't refereed to by a definite age. If they went by ages, then yes it would be useful but here not much. A child seems to be roughly around the ages of 8-12.

I agree on bringing the teens a bit smaller. Teens look exactly like Young adults, and young adults are supposed to be the age of 18-21/23. So I think the teens should look younger and shorter.

Other than the teen needing to be shorter, for me personally I think the rest of the life stages makes sense and I can not complain for what we have. Babies are infants and toddlers seem to be roughly the middle and late stages of the age group. Since being a toddler is from 2 years of age up to 5 years. As for most, toddler is the ages before they can start kindergarten. So I think all of these makes sense since we're not going by ages in the Sims.

I'd be happier if Teens were just shrunk so it would make sense. Most teens aren't as tall as their parents. But I am assuming that this stage is from 15-17, most likely. I don't think I would enjoy game play if they added in a pre-teen stage just for no reason. Maybe if they could have things like when you have a teen and they have a tense or angry moodlet that says "From being a teenager" so maybe the pre-teens could have random acne and it has a tense moodlet that says something like "From going through puberty" or something more T friendly. If there was actually different gameplay/moods for the pre-teens then I wouldn't mind them being there. But I wouldn't want it to be a thing if there was nothing being added for them.

Not sure who made this, but this is exactly how aging would be if we got preteens. Instead of jumping from 3-4ft to 5-6ft. Plus an extra layer of gameplay and story telling.
