I haven't have my sims grow a cowplant in a while now, but I thought I would kill the sim it ate every other time. So far now my cow plant has spit out every sim. Did the death by cowplant get remove...

Sims can still die by cowplant. If they get eaten once and spat out, they get a 'drained' moodlet. If they try to interact with the cowplant again and get eaten while still having this moodlet, they'll die.
I'm not sure if this is just in the older games, but I think they'll also die if they get eaten if their mood is dangerously low. I also think if they have low hygiene, the cowplant will spit them out. This might not be TS4-specific, however.
